The good work being done by the Baillie Wind Farm Community Fund was highlighted recently at its AGM, held on 16th October at Forss where members reviewed the grants given out over the past year.
Baillie Wind Farm is contributing £100,000 per annum for the 25 year life of the wind farm for the benefit of West Caithness.
The logo for the Fund was selected via a competition run at Reay Primary School, with the winner Lucy McDonald receiving a silver frame with her finished artwork and the school receiving a cheque for £300.
In total, 24 grants were approved by the Fund’s Directors over the past year, with the money going to support a range of businesses, charities, and individuals in West Caithness, as well as supporting some educational and sporting organisations covering the wider Caithness area.
Grants were awarded to a wide range of groups including 1st Thurso Rangers, Forss Hall, Julie Minchin Childminder, Reay Primary School and Scrabster Community Association. A full list of grants awarded can be found on the Baillie Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund website.
James Manson, Chairman of Baillie Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund, said: “The directors are delighted that the Fund has been able to support so many good causes in the local area over the past year.
“The Fund will continue to disburse grants for the lifetime of the wind farm, and we are keen to see the local area continuing to benefit from the Fund. We would encourage all clubs, groups, residents and small businesses in the area to apply.”
Residents, societies, clubs and groups in the West Caithness Community Council Area are eligible to apply, and individual residents in the area may apply for funding towards micro-generation on individual dwellings of up to 70% or a maximum of £5,000. Local businesses in the West Caithness area may also be eligible to apply for support with capital equipment or business start-ups focusing on the environment, education, community improvements and outdoor activities.
The Fund may also consider applications from educational and sporting groups from other community council areas in Caithness and North Sutherland.
